The time for the Salian City Pro Run came. The main pro in attendance was Cosmo; Gage Artemis. A few new pros making the rounds along with a few qualifying amateurs. Not a necessary race on the main circtui of the MSTRA, but a starter for the season. Top three racers here got a buy-in for Twilight Classic on Mercury. A lot of the pros would be there, the points were big on Mercury for the pro circuit. Here though, it still mattered. Cosmo counted this as a home track, Salian his home, no matter where he was living it up in the solar system.

hen the race was under way, Cosmo shot off to an early lead in the first leg, being followed by Reed "Rocket", leaving the rest of the back seemingly in the dust. As the course ran into the methane lakes section, Zee came out of the back to challenge Rocket for 2nd, just passing him while Cosmo darted head. He gained such a lead it was written off, he would win. This eschewed the betting outcomes at Asteria Casino and other casinos throughout the solar system.
However, in the next section, Cosmo took a little slip on the course, this brought Rocket and Zee within a few lengths of him, the two still close to each other, Rocket just behind Zee. Coming out of the packet behind those two was Duecy, a young pro from Caelus and Garret 'G-Man' another amateur local that made it through qualifiers to be in this race. Nearly closing that gap to Cosmo, Zee and Rocket just can't keep that pace for the final league of the Salian City Track.

While G-Man musters 4th place away from young pro Deucy, Reed Rocket lands a solid third. He lost ground to Zee in that final, she made a push for Cosmo, but solidified his win, while she secured 2nd place.

The press would be there to flock with the top three on their way to podium/stand for prizes. Reed Rocket good with his finish. Cosmo on the other hand, seems to be ignoring the others for now. Commenting how much confidence he had, sure he would win. Even as he gets a lei of flowers representing common Saturn colors, he's moving to take the first place spot and is pointed towards replay holos around the pits. "Yeah, I guess that racer almost had a shot," he says, seeing the footage at first. Its when he turns to look at wherever Zee is that he gives a pause, as if in surprise, or a squint even, as if uncertain. "Her," he says, getting a flush of some questions about does he know her, maybe something seen in his look to her. "Long ago, nothing important," he says to them, separating, a moment when all racers will wait to go out, a time they can interact between them, if they so wish. Cosmo watches to see how Zee handles herself with this second place finish. <English>

It had been a hard fought race and Zee had taken it seriously. Every race she took seriously. Maybe she took a few chances where she needn't, maybe she pushed when she should have backed off and maybe she put herself into more dangerous circumstances when she shouldn't. It made for a damned good race and with her being fearless, it brought her to the coveted second place. For a rookie and up and comer, it sure brought in attention. Especially when she'd come in a somewhat close second to one of the big name pros. The checkered is waved with her unable to catch him and she's not exactly happy with her placement, she'd wanted first, just in case someone had bet on her, and after her helmet retracts into her uniform she makes her way to where she's supposed to go, not answering any questions.
Eyes fall on Gage with recognition, but then again she'd known the whole time whose ass she was chasing around the track. There's not a touch of warmth in her eyes, they hold something akin to ice. His response has her smirking as the attention switches to her momentarily, "Oh, have we met?" It's not the most obvious response at all and there's a knowing look in her eyes that immediately belies her question. Or makes a mockery of his words. She'd take either. <English>

*

"Something like that," responds Gage to her, as if it was some show for the press. A slight flash of anger in his eyes of course, he left her, he left her for his own fame and now, here she was. She was into MagneTrack Racing then, she was learning and getting better. He never waited for her to catch up, he ran into the spotlight and tried to stay there. "Still chasing me I see," he comments when they're out of ear shot from those who would repeat it. Once again looking over at a holo display of the race and her gaining on him. She's a local currently, he is (or was at least), so local footage is showing that for the fans, her race to hold second or gain on first. Of course he would spin it that way, she's trying to get him back, not that she made any such effort, and he well knows it. <English>

*

Whatever reaction he has for her, Zee does seem to take it in stride, especially while the cameras were rolling. Catching that flash of anger only brings a touch of amusement and anyone watching might see the sparks fly between the two. Not sparks of attraction, mind you, but there's more to the story than is being told on camera. That single comment though has her twisting her lips with a wry look. "Not even on your birthday, Champ." No, it's not his nickname nor his name, but said in a more insulting tone. A flicker of her eyes towards the holo display and she grins. "I sure don't want to catch you, but I'll surpass you. Count on that." <English>

*

A slight shake of his head, indifference at best. "Still celebrating it in April," he says, "I think there is an April I know to help with that." Being chased on his birthday? Something to help on his birthday at least. Her grin as she looks at the display is matched with a slight chuckle from him as she mentions surpassing him, not catching. "Someday, sure, maybe. Mercury isn't going to be so easy, tougher crowd there." Or more pros at least. Out on the stage/poduim, the local announcer is starting with commentary. Welcoming words and discussing the race, not long before they go up there, in turn. "See how you do there before I focus on what I can count out of you." He's standing more still, collecting himself after the race, as if preparing more for public persona again too even, as this is just idle chit chat despite their history. <English>

*

"Your flavor of the month? Well, April leads to May." Zee finds the banter back and forth tiresome and she stifles a yawn, a glance towards the monitors again. "Looks like I got a lot to celebrate." The news of her and Axe notwithstanding of course. Hopefully it hadn't spread. "I'll be there at Mercury, count on it. May the best racer win." As the announcer goes on she slides her hands in her pockets and regards Cosmo cooly. "You're good at quitting stuff though, right?" <English>

*

A shrug of indifference, Cosmo nods, "Something like that." The months, one to the next. As for celebrating, he considers it a moment then nods along with it. "Yeah, enjoy it while you can," its said flat of voice. It could be taken anyway, fame is fleeting, or some insult that this could be her only moment, just that he doesn't inflict enough to throw that either way, more off handed with perhaps less meaning than could be read into it either way. As she quips back about him leaving or quitting though, he turns a hot look that cools nearly instantly. "Hey, gave you some motivation it looks like, here you are now." Taking credit, though none is really his to take there. The third place fellow, Rocket, is called out. He looks thankful to get away from these two and take a few moments in the local spotlight for hist third place finish. <English>

*

Most of what he says is taken with a grain of sand and ignored almost completely except for a flicker of her eyes over his frame. It's almost all she can do not to comment and she does a pretty damned good job of not doing so. Until he tries to take credit for her own achievements. "You're almost right," she finally says against her better judgment, unaware the cameras were soon turning to her. Maybe she gets it out first, before they do, maybe not. But she does offer, "My brother and my daughter gave me the motivation to do this. Before they both were gone. You?" A brow arches. "You were only the most minute part of the equation." Likely, it's why she never tried to get him back and never contacted him again. <English>

*

"Ah, moved on then," he ponders, that daughter thing being something that obviously happened after he left and before now. A slight pause, "Sorry," he says. A loss is a loss, even though he's self centered and a jerk, he's not that much a jerk. "Better than nothing I guess," he says about being a small part of it. Maybe sensing the cameras, or sensing she's tired of the little quibs or banter between them. "You're fifteen minutes," he nods towards the presenting area there, as the announcer is looking to the side where the riders are. "You earned it." Clearly, second place is being announced, or was, with the cameras indeed pointing to the remaining duo to be honored this race. <English>

*

It gives new meaning to being saved by the cameras as Zee opens her mouth to let him know and she realizes her name was called and the cameras were rolling. Her mouth closes, she offers a shake of her hand to Gage, the winner of the race, before going to take her second place announcement. It passes in a flash of cameras, a blur of conversation she somehow gets through, but she finds her gaze skirting the edges for the security detail of the SPA. Wishful thinking on her part, but she looks anyway. And then her turn is over and she moves to the side to make way for the winner.

*

Cosmo watches a moment as she goes, taking her hand and giving it a proper shake, more formal than any familiarity there. A watch as she goes, and cameras follow her on stage, then he loses focus. Not distracted, more not caring. Letting Rocket go his way, and her if she chooses. He doesn't come alive again until his turn, and he goes to take his winning/award. There he's all condifence the same, knowing he'd win, playing it up a little uncaring for the cameras. As for security detail, its devoid of familiar faces it seems, at least the detail right here front and center.

*

Which is probably for the best, all things considered, and Zee finishes and steps aside while the winner gets his moments of fame. As for her, she does the necessary things after a race, signs a (very few) autographs, puts on the race sponsors hat and smiles for the cameras with a thumbs up, all of the things required by contract to join the circuit. Even drinking the SaturNergy Energy drink that had paid for advertising along the track. Cosmo is avoided, Rocket is mostly ignored, but that is mutual it seems, and she bides her time until she can just go.
