(3018-01-28) Sunny Meets Archer
Summary: Archer and Sunny meet while Sunny is investigating the shuttle to Aristarchus Station for hidden curselings and problems with the ship.

It's the middle of the day on Titan. Nothing much is happening, just the usual foot traffic around Albion Commons. Heading down below the bubble of the Avalon teleporter, one finds the transport that would normally take Adroits to the distant station. And though the ship isn't currently in use, the ship to Arstarchus station is kept in a secure location. Which makes the rather civilian looking Sunny stand out, yet nobody bothers him as he circles the ship, holding a hand out towards it, running his hand along the hull of the Adroit's ship to their station. Occasionally he pauses, and then continues, walking at a casual pace, his eyes elsewhere, focused in the middle distance.

*

Jogging. On Jupiter, it's one heck of an exercise. Even in the domed cities, where they've managed to mitigate the effects somewhat, the gravity is still the heaviest in the solar system. Which means the loping pace that Archer has set for himself hasn't even really begun to work up a sweat, yet. Coming back from thataway, Archer notices Sunny making circles around the shuttle, acting odd. Archer slows to a walk, then stops, looking around. No, he's obviously not the only person who can see the kid, as other people do look at him. But, nobody says anything to him. Archer, however, is the curious sort, so he takes it upon himself to find out. "Hey kid! What're ya doing?" he calls as he approaches. <English>

*

"Hey.. guy, I'm sensing for Curselings and problems in the substructure, not that I know what they look like, since i haven't found any, but they suggested I practice on ships that the Academy and Avalon make use of," Sunny answers and lowers his hands for a second to dust them off, flicking bits of metal flakes out of his hands where micro-particles had been shed from the external hull. Lifting his hand again then, he seems to focus for a moment and resumes walking, hand held out towards the hull, he pauses again and purses his lips. "That though, that feels a little off," he says to himself.
<English>

*

Blinking, Archer stops again once he's closer. "… you're doing /what/, now?" he asks, totally baffled by the kids statement. "All I got was Curselings and you don't know what you're looking for." He puts his hands on the top of his head out of habit, even though he's not breathing hard. "You're one of the special kids, too, then? I still haven't figured out of they have an official name for us yet, I keep hearing different terms from everybody." <English>

*

"I'm a Phenom, given that you're here and you didn't understand me, I'm guessing you're either very lost, or an Adroit, that's the official names that the Society has given, and I'm inclined to take Merlin's lingo as the official thing," Sunny says and then pauses realizes he was being short and turns to offer a hand to the other boy. "I'm Sunny. I'm a phenom, a mage, of the metal connate. I'm using my sense of metal to feel the ship for problems that don't belong, like stuff that doesn't flow right. Like a dent or something, on the interior, indications of stress or something like that. I'm hoping I'll know it when i feel it. I can also sense curselings from their blood," he adds.
<English>

*

"Oh, yeah, that's not what I meant," Archer says, stepping forward and shaking the other boy's hand. He upnods, introducing himself. "Archer Ryan. I'm an Adroit, yeah. But I meant more in general. Descendents of Legend, the Chosen, gifted, the promised, everybody calls us something different. I didn't know if there was one or the other that everybody here used. That's all I was saying." He looks the shuttle over a little, then turns back to Sunny. "So how did you find out what /you/ could do? We still haven't done anything to show what my magic powers are." <English>

*

"That's just propaganda for the masses, I'm not going to walk around calling myself a legend. We're just people as far as I'm concerned," Sunny says with a smile. "Nice to meet you, Archer. Me? I started feeling people's heartbeats and it made me a bit batty, then some other stuff happened, and I had a few outbursts. The Society found me soon after. I've been told that you sorts end up being found by some sort of skin test that they've been administering, that's right, right?"
<English>

*

Archer nods. "Little bit more in depth than that, but yeah. Not sure how it all works out, but whatever it is, I'm it," he says, smirking a little. "And yeah, I'm not saying we're better than anybody else. But, we /are/ different. That's why everybody's family gets an all-expense paid relocation over here." He shrugs and begins to circle around the shuttle, now, too. "So … what's this thing for, anyway?" <English>

*

"Uh, this is the shuttle you take to Aristarchus Station. The school. That you go to," Sunny explains and glances around the shuttle bay. "Are you waiting for the next shuttle out, and didn't realize where you ended up?" he asks, conspiratorially. "Oh, you're like, brand new. Now I get it, they must have just found you, huh? Well, yeah, to go back to what you were saying then, yeah, we're different, but the title for what we are, is our title, and anything besides that is propaganda. Don't use that stuff, it makes us sound pretentious. It's marketing so people feel better about the war. Our titles are enough, ya know?"
<English>

*

Archer listens earnestly and then nods. "Yeah, I'm new new. This is literally my second day. So … yeah. Sorry if I don't know stuff," he says with a non-committal shrug. Then, he cants his head to the side and thinks for a second. "Wait a minute. Are you the … you said your name is Sunny, right? Are you the Sunny that cut the head off a Curseling with a sword?" <English>

*

- Sunny rolls his Transform (2D+0) for a total of 6 (Wild Die: 2), perhaps enough for a Easy task.

*

The tall boy nods his head a few times at the question, "Heard about that, did you?" he asks. "I didn't realize it was going to be such a memorable thing to do, at the time. I just knew we were in a hurry, and the researcher wanted a part of its brain-stuff or something," he explains the situation. "So I did the quickest thing I could think of." As he explains, he slowly starts trying to walk again, holding his hand out towards the ship as he goes. Feeling out with his enhanced senses. "That, and I really hate the things, so it makes it easy."
<English>

*

"Yeah, Ceres told me about that. That sounds awesome, man. I can't wait to fight them. I mean, I can totally wait, but I am ready to get some payback, you know?" Archer says, making a fist and punching it into his other palm. At least he talks tough! "Was it really that scary, though? Ceres said it was terrifying and she could hardly move. Is that like, a special affect they have on people? Or are they just super gross or something?" <English>

*

"It's a magical aura, I think, everyone felt it," Sunny explains and searches around in his pockets, then taps the bracelet he wears on his wrist and sends a tightbeam broadcast to the other boy's wrist-bound computer, with his basic observations of the fight. A list of things. Like their armored skin, their aura, the tentacle and other forms of attack they use. "There, feel free to read all of the stuff I could remember. I knew people would ask, so I wrote it all down."
<English>

*

"Dude … that's awesome. Thanks. I'll definitely read this," Archer says, looking down at his wristband and nodding approvingly. And then … well. He smirks again and moves to lean on the shuttle. "So, uh … Ceres. She's, uh … pretty wow, right?" <English>

*

Walking along the shuttle, Sunny glances back at Archer and nods his head, "Dibs." Joking, of course, it can be seen on his face. "But yeah, she's hot. I don't know what her deal is though, I don't know if I'll even see her again for months or whatever, so I'm joking, by the way," he adds. In case that wasn't clear.
<English>

*

"… her deal?" Archer asks, an eyebrow quirking. "But yeah, she is definitely hot. … are /all/ the girls here like that? Or is it Earth girls? I mean, man!" he says, laughing and shaking his head a little. "Why do you think she has a deal? And why wouldn't you see her for months?" <English>

*

"Because I train in a land of myth and she trains on a space station, and as for her deal, because I have only fought by her the once, and then met her once outside of that, and it wasn't like I got to know her on a deep level. She could secretly be a huge jerk," Sunny explains as he walks. Thinking about the hotness thing, he nods his head, "I think it's a bloodline thing. We're all smoke-shows. I know I am, look at these guns," he flexes his arms a little. He's not swole, exactly, but he isn't stick thin either. It's probably another joke.
<English>

*

"… really? Well … that sucks. But, she's definitely not a jerk …," he says, shaking his head. And then Sunny points out the bloodlines thing and Archer blinks, then nods in consideration. "… huh! So … they all gonna be hotties, then." A grin spreads across his face as he thinks about it. "Man, I'm liking this more and more." But then Sunny is flexing, and Archer chuckles a little. "I ain't mad at you, bro. Go ahead with it," he says. He doesn't seem to feel the need to show off, himself, instead folding his arms across his chest and leaning against the shuttle. "So, you've been here a while, I take it?" <English>

*

"You got here yesterday, and you already know her that well? Well damn, you've got a better sense for people than I do. For a few months, yeah, most of us have been, I honestly didn't even realize they were still bringing in new kids for the first year," Sunny says as he walks along again, holding his hand out towards the shuttle. Pausing again, but this time, he holds out his other hand and really seems to be focusing, "Come on," he says, and leads the way on board the shuttle. Catching the attention of an official mechanic on the way. The teen doesn't talk much as he walks, just shows the mechanic to an access way and says, "There's some loose 'stuff' down in that area, I think."
<English>

*

Archer frowns a little, shaking his head. "I'm not saying I could write a biography or tell you her life story or nothing. I'm just saying, we talked for a minute and she was real cool. Real chill. I mean, sure, she could have been putting up a front, but it didn't seem like it," he says. "And yeah, I dunno. I think, when they find us, they bring us. With the war on, I think it's just next man up, you know?" When Sunny moves to show the mechanic where to fix stuff, Archer follows along, though he hangs back several feet, trying to see if HE can notice anything wrong. Which he can't. <English>

*

The mechanic climbs down into the crawlspace with only the slightest of exasperated looks, but then emerges a few moments later and says, "Yeah, some of the micro-mesh on the tertiary anti-matter recombinator was loose, good catch, kid."
A thumbs up from Sunny, and the boy starts to walk back out of the ship, pausing to 'show Archer around' even though he hadn't actually been on the shuttle either, himself. "So, this must be where you'll sit with students when they come and go every day. Pretty standard shuttle."
<English>

*

Archer just nods, shrugging his shoulders. "Yeah, you guys are the ones who get transported all fancy," he says, smirking. "But, really, what I wanted to ask you was … do you think we can make a difference? Like, both my parents have tried to contribute in their own ways. I want to, too. But, you've been here and you've fought them. You think we really gonna turn things around?" he asks. <English>

*

"Current numbers? No. But if our numbers grow, and we get as good as the guys in the Society, and you guys get good at what you do, then yeah. Though I think it might mean we'll have to go and stop the Curselings from coming altogether, not fight them when they get here, like, go to wherever it is they come from, I mean," Sunny explains. Walking down through the ship. "Or maybe we'll have to move everyone to a central planet for defense? I don't know."
<English>

*

Archer nods along and pounds his fist into his palm again. "Man, I hope we get them. You right, though. We either gonna have to go where they come from and stop 'em, or find a way to keep them from opening portals onto our worlds. Otherwise, war won't never end," he says, shaking his head. Then, he smiles and sticks his hands in his pockets while they walk. "So where you from, Sunny?" <English>

*

"Metal," Sunny answers and reaches out to wrap a knuckle on the bulkhead as he walks slowly out of the shuttle, looking around less than he is giving some sort of tour. "Mercury. Our connates, our elemental affinity, is tied to where we're from, for some reason, which makes no sense to me, given that the original guys are all from Earth, but whatever, it is what it is. You?" he asks.
<English>

*

"Jupiter. We're like, air and weather or something? I don't get it, either, though," Archer offers. "You like it here okay? They treat everybody cool? I know it's a pretty swank living complex they've got us in. Not to mention, what do we do around here for fun?" <English>

*

"You mean, on Titan? Yeah, it's pretty swank, like you said, but I don't suppose it's much different anywhere, right? Everyone has everything they need, unless you're extra rich, then you get to have more than you need," Sunny says as they walk. "And cool, Jupiter adroit, that could make for some interesting stuff. Maybe you can make some cool jetpacks or something?" he speculates, trying to think of interesting uses for air.
<English>

*

"I dunno, man. But I'm excited to find out," Archer replies, grinning. "Back home, I learned how to use staffs and the GyroBow pretty well. I'm hoping to be able to do something with that," he says. "What about you? You said metal … and blood? So how does metal magic work? Can you like, make stuff out of thin air?" <English>

*

"A gyrobow? Never used one of those before, oh, yeah, that makes sense. I mean, air, that would work well with arrows," Sunny says as they walk off of the shuttle, and down the boarding ramp. Turning around when he gets to the bottom, he says, "Well, my check is done. I need to head home, my foster parents will be expecting me," he explains.
<English>

*

"Yeah. We'll see!" Archer says, smirking. When Sunny announces his departure, Archer nods and offers him a small wave. "Have a good night, man. I'm sure I'll see you around!" <English>
